Mrs. Ada Ruth Kent Flowers, born July 22, 1918, passed away on September 5, 2016 at the age of 98 years.
As a young girl of fifteen, she asked Jesus to come into her life. She became a faithful lifelong member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, co-founded by Ruth's grandmother, Ada, for whom she was named. Ruth's life was devoted to being a loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She kept them all well-fed with her famous fried chicken, biscuits, and chocolate pie.
She was preceded in death by parents, William Thomas (Tom) and Bessie Kent, husband Alf E. Flowers, Sr., son Donald Ray Flowers, grandchildren Jessie, Jr., and Melinda, and 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by sons, Alfred Flowers, Jr., Carl Flowers, Aaron Flowers, Ronnie Flowers, and brothers, Wordy Kent and Daniel Kent, grandchildren Stephen, Lisa, Cindy, Christy, Steven, Laura, Tom, Frank, Rachel, Clara, Donna, Becky, Scott, Richard, Robert, and Jason, 30 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Generations of family have sat with Ruth on her front porch swing, as she rocked babies, singing Southern hymns.
Visitation and services to be held at 10:00 am and 11:00 am, respectively, on September 7, 2016 at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, 4185 Primitive Baptist Church Road. Nephew Eddie Kent will officiate; grandsons and great-grandsons will be pallbearers.
